In this comprehensive article, we give the main features of our recently updated, independent ETL & Data Integration research on the software vendor IBM and its product portfolio (such as IBM Infosphere, IBM Infosphere Datastage, and IBM Infosphere Information Server). IBM ETL & Data Integration scores better in our comprehensive research than Oracle but slightly worse than SAP. Of all the categories in our independent study, IBM scored the highest on data governance and has a poor performance in self-service integration. Within the context of ETL & Data Integration, we have researched the pros and cons of IBM Data Integration, and arranged them by topic (data integration, ETL, data replication, and data quality). We also display the features of the product portfolio like IBM Infosphere, IBM Infosphere Datastage, and IBM Infosphere Information Server et cetera.

How does IBM ETL & Data Integration perform on different parts?

In our study, we also analyzed all relevant products of IBM ETL & Data Integration software. We examined no less than 290 aspects. The bar chart below shows the scores (on a scale of 1-5) of IBM Data Integration, compared to other ETL & Data Integration tools. Please note that Passionned Group is 100% independent of the suppliers in the research. We are not a reseller, we do not make deals or have any relationship with the vendor. Among other things, we help and advise organizations in selecting the right ETL & Data Integration platform.

Innovations of IBM Data Integration tools and the version history

Over time, IBM has seen a stable evolution in terms of ETL & Data Integration functionality and support for operating systems, cloud platforms, and connectivity. The latest innovations are in the areas of data integration > ETL > bulk processing > bulk inserts, data governance > test data > generating test data, and master data management > master data distribution.

We investigated IBM’s current releases of its complete ETL & Data Integration proposition. Below you can see the structure of the various releases of the various ETL & Data Integration products of IBM:

  • IBM Cloud Paks: 1.4 1.0
  • IBM Data Replication: 2024 11.4 8
  • IBM Infosphere Datastage: 2023 11 8.1
  • IBM Infosphere Information Analyzer: 2023
  • IBM Infosphere Information Server: 2024 11.7.1.1 11.7.1 11.7 11.5.0.1 11.5.0 11.3 11 9.1 9 8.5

  • Tivoli Enterprise Data Warehouse: May 2002

Behind each product, we notate the version numbers, the list is ordered by time.

Can you easily determine the licensing costs of IBM Infosphere, IBM Infosphere Datastage, and IBM Infosphere Information Server?

In many cases, it can be difficult to determine the licensing costs of IBM ETL & Data Integration because it depends on the country, the number of users, the connectors to data sources, and at what point in the year you request a quote. If you request a quote just before the end of the fiscal period of IBM, you can probably get a decent reduction in the license cost. As part of a cloud-first strategy, it makes sense to run the software in the cloud, you only pay for the actual use. The purchase cost of IBM Infosphere, IBM Infosphere Datastage, and IBM Infosphere Information Server may not be the single largest expense, but maintenance and support do show up in your budget every year.

What makes IBM ETL & Data Integration worth watching

In our study, we see that IBM in the field of ETL & Data Integration software has a number of specific features which are characteristic. This makes IBM Data Integration more or less unique: master data distribution, offline data synchronization, process flow diagrams, bulkload utility, and data quality workflows.

The advantages and disadvantages of IBM Data Integration

Get to know the key features of IBM ETL & Data Integration in the following topic paragraphs. There we describe all the pros and cons of IBM ETL & Data Integration, IBM Infosphere, IBM Infosphere Datastage, and IBM Infosphere Information Server, et cetera. These are not necessarily definitive because: IBM can currently work on developing a new functionality that closes the gaps in the product portfolio (such as support for amazon redshift, quickbooks, dimension tables, JAR, business rules, high volumes, SOQL, business glossary, reverse geocoding, and sybase). Or a certain feature is not (yet) (well) documented.
